About us
In the last 30 years in our country there have been important changes in the use of land related to the expansion and intensification of agriculture, which led to a simplification of the natural landscapes producing consequently a decline in the diversity and abundance of native fauna species. This loss of biodiversity benefited the proliferation of generalist species that have the capacity to become pests and affect public health. The fate of biodiversity will depend on understanding how intensified land use affects species and the ecosystem services they provide. Thus, one of the main challenges of the GIEPCO is to generate baseline information for the development of sustainable management strategies that achieve an efficient combination between productive land use and the conservation of taxonomic and functional biodiversity in productive systems in central Argentina. This is done by using mammals and birds as indicators of disturbances produced by agriculture, due to the important ecological role they play in agro-ecosystems and the wide knowledge the working group has about them. Considering that Córdoba is one of the provinces most affected by the change in land use, the results generated will have an important regional impact and could serve as a model for other productive regions of the country with similar characteristics
