José W. Priotto

Dr. in Biological Sciences

Graduated in Biological Sciences from the National University of Río Cuarto where I also did my doctorate. On it, I studied experimentally, how changes in the structures of rodent populations affect their regulation. I am currently a Principal Investigator of CONICET at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Biodiversity and Environment (ICBIA, UNRC-CONICET) and Associate Professor of the Department of Natural Sciences of the Faculty of Exact, Physical-Chemical and Natural Sciences of the National University of Rio Cuarto. Furthermore, I am an Assistant Editor of Mastozoología Neotropical, a magazine belonging to the Argentine Society of Mammozoology (SAREM) and the Brazilian Society of Mammozoology (SBMz).
My specialty is framed in population, behavioral and landscape ecology. Within these areas of knowledge, I have carried out numerous studies on rodents with importance in public health in urban, natural and agro-ecosystem areas of the Pampeana region and the west of Patagonia. Among the studied species are mainly Calomys musculinus, C. venustus, Akodon azarae, Oligoryzomys longuicaudatus, Mus musculus , among others.

Currently, I direct projects that aim to study the effect of different agricultural management on vertebrate biodiversity, following the goal of reconciling production with biodiversity conservation. Also in agroecosystems, we are studying the role of vertebrate and invertebrate species in the dispersal and / or predation of herbicide resistant weed seeds.
